  • Title: Final Report: A Summary of Independent Research on READ 180 (Also titled A Summary of Efficacy Studies using Read 180).

    Author: PSA

    Year: 2002

Publication Information: Washington, DC: Policy Studies Associates (PSA), Inc.

Abstract: READ 180 is a reading intervention program designed for students in grades four and above whose reading is below proficiency. The current summary provides an overview of three large-scale studies that examined READ 180 in the urban areas of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Department of Defense Schools, and four other large districts. Each study indicates that student reading improved more with the intervention than without it; some students' growth was quite substantial. Reading attitudes also appear to become more positive with the program. Investigators suggest best practices for implementation and areas for future consideration based on the individual studies. Charts showing successes are provided.
